Activists are often people proselytising the benefits of some policy without any recognition of their overall consequences. Ultimately, the advocate loves that thing, whether it's environmental regulation, taxes, or immigration restrictions. They want more "X" and are too ignorant to know what that would mean for everything else. It's safe to ignore those people.
