Politics is a Club for Demagogues
With a "No Intellectually-Honest People Allowed" sign on the door.
Demagoguery is the politics of social desirability bias, where politicians make whatever claims sound good, regardless of the validity. "Raising minimum wage" sounds like rainbows and kisses. Ultimately, most people want to feel good and damn the consequences. Who's keeping tabs, anyway? The out-of-touch economists who don't care about the little guy.
In daily discourse, there's a painful disconnect between what pleases you and reality. The harmful move to embrace social desirability bias is a mental shortcoming rewarded in democracies by the system people consider sacred.
